Feedback is a Gift...That I'd Rather Not Open

Thursday, April 26, 2012

5:30 p.m. – 8:45 p.m.

Location:  Crowne Plaza Hotel - Downtown Orlando**

Program Description:

As children, students, employees, or constituents, we all dread feedback (even when we say we love getting it!). As managers, supervisors, leaders, we dread giving feedback (even when we call it a gift). It’s awkward, uncomfortable, and makes both sides feel like the bad guy. But hindsight is 20/20: if we actually do something productive with the feedback received, we can improve our performance. And as leaders, if we see improvement in those we lead, we know we did the right thing. So, how does a person get over the overwhelming sense of dread when it comes to feedback? This session will look at ways to effectively both deliver and receive feedback with hopes that by the end of the session, the idea of feedback won’t sting…as much.

Facilitator Bio:

Lowell Doringo

Light hearted, thought provoking, and quick-witted, Lowell Doringo began his leadership journey with his election as president of his middle school student council with the slogan, “Get a Bingo and Vote Doringo!” Soon after, Lowell became a member of HOSA – Future Health Professionals where he became a Certified Pharmacy Technician and eventually served as the organization’s 1998-1999 National President, leading over 60,000 members across the country.

After graduating from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor‘s Degree in Communication Studies in 2002, Lowell completed the Disney Parks and Resorts College Program Internship entertaining guests as a “skipper” on the world famous Jungle Cruise attraction. He continued to develop his Disney career through several promotions including: Disney VIP Tour Guide, MAGIC KINGDOM® Park Guest Service Manager, and as a Business Programs Facilitator for the Disney Institute where he taught “the business behind the magic" to organizations and Fortune 500 companies.

In 2007, Lowell was selected to carry on a company tradition that dates back to Walt Disney himself as one of two Walt Disney World Ambassadors, representing the company's 62,000 employees as the official Disney spokesperson and goodwill emissary to all nations. At the end of his Ambassadorship, Lowell was promoted to the role of Project Consultant tasked to develop the Emerging Leaders Program, an intensive leadership-training program for high potential employees seeking their first Disney management position.

In addition, Lowell volunteers with various non-profit organizations including the Boys and Girls Club of Central Florida, and serves on the HOSA, Inc. Board of Directors, the governing body that oversees HOSA – Future Health Professionals. In 2012, he will serve as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of HOSA, Inc., giving back to the organization of now over 130,000 members.

Today, Lowell lives in Orlando, Florida, and travels the country speaking to leadership organizations, sharing his unique, humorous, and honest stories to engage and motivate students and professionals alike. Lowell also continues to work for The Walt Disney World® Resort as a Training Manager supporting Leadership Development, and in 2009, received the highest award given to Disney Parks and Resorts employees, the Partners in Excellence Award.
