Converting Your Training to

e-Learning:

Lumps, Bumps and Bruises

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

Do you have a training program that you’ve delivered to hundreds of employees what seems likes thousands of times, and it works to perfection?  It seems like it would be easy to convert it to an e-Learning course – but then you realize that only 30% of the content is in the materials, and the rest is in the instructors’ minds and everyone has a different way of teaching the material. Sound familiar?

In this session, you will hear from Tanya Coomes, co-author of E-Learning Uncovered: Articulate Studio'09 about the Lumps, Bumps and Bruises of integrating e-Learning into your curriculum.

First, you will learn different case studies that illustrate some unexpected difficulties in converting ILT to e-Learning.  You’ll take away a five-step model, and valuable checklists that will help you understand the risks and challenges up front. The model outlines the process, and provides tools to assist with successfully analyzing, managing, and leading an e-Learning conversion project.

Once you have your plan for converting your ILT, it’s time to decide which eLearning development tool to use.  What do they each do? How are they different? Which one is best?  Do you need them all?  You’ll learn about the three most commonly-used rapid e-learning development tools on the market.   All three can be used to create engaging and interactive e-learning courses without the need for any programming. You’ll see samples of each one in action so you can really understand what they can do and whether or not they meet your needs.  And you’ll walk away with a useful checklist to help you make your own authoring tool decisions.

In this session, you will learn:

  • The differences in the two types of courses for stakeholders, environment, and the audience
  • To ask the right questions up front to effectively define and plan a conversion project
  • To spot and plan for risks early in the project
  • To apply the five-step model to any e-Learning conversion project
  • The fundamental differences between the most commonly used rapid e-Learning development tools: Captivate, Lectora, and Articulate
  • What technical skills are necessary to master each tool
  • Which features to consider when selecting a tool
