Dr. Bobby Hoffman, Associate Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Central Florida (UCF) and author of over 50 publications and four books, will be joining us to discuss human motivation. His presentation will highlight how the beliefs we have about ourselves can be used to implement science-based strategies that cultivate work engagement and peak performance.

Hoffman brings a unique perspective to ATD members because before earning his PhD and becoming a prominent motivation researcher, he spent 22 years in training and organizational development working for the world’s most successful companies including GE, KPMG, NBC, and the National Basketball Association (NBA).

During the presentation Hoffman will discuss performance improvement strategies based on the latest research from psychology, education, business, athletics, and neuroscience that he simplifies in his latest book “Hack Your Motivation,” which will be given free to all attendees as part of the regular meeting admission fee.

Session participants will learn:

  • How to debunk the 7 most common motivational myths
  • The 3 motivational influences that must be embraced to enhance workplace learning
  • The top 5 self-beliefs that impede or accelerate work performance
  • The most important clues that reveal if a person is self-sabotaging
  • The psychology behind procrastination, learned helplessness, and the “freeloader” effect
  • How to distinguish motivational issues from knowledge and experience deficits
  • Implementation strategies to overcome the frustration leaders have engaging staff.

The overall goal of the presentation is to assist participants in the identification, analysis, and mediation of motivational challenges related to optimal performance and achievement motivation.

*Light refreshments and snacks will be provided.

Attendees receive a copy of Dr. Hoffman’s new book “Hack Your Motivation: Over 50 Science-based Strategies to Improve Performance” use a conversational style, humor, and stories from his own life and those people he has met along the way to transform scientific findings into easy-to- understand and quick-to-use strategies (Hacks) that can be implemented to enhance personal and professional development.

Dr. Hoffman is different from the hundreds of other “self-appointed” motivational gurus. Beside his Ph.D. from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, he worked in performance improvement and leadership development for 20 years before becoming a professor who specializes in motivation research. For the last two years he was the person that reviewed, approved, and scheduled all the research presentations on motivation for the largest gathering of motivational researchers in the world! Plus, he published a textbook on motivation that was a #1 category seller on Amazon.com in 2015. In addition, he is on the editorial board of five scientific journals and is a regular contributor to Psychology Today.
