Knight Trainers:

UCF Students Show & Tell How They are Preparing to

Become the Next Generation of

Workplace Learning Professionals

October 23rd, 2012

5:30pm - 8:45pm

This meeting will be a great follow up to our September meeting, as you will discover how today’s college students are being prepared to become the instructional designers and trainers of tomorrow.  CFC ASTD 2000 President, Kathie Holland will first provide an overview of her Training and Development course at UCF.  Then she and some of her students will show you how they write effective learning objectives, and design a workshop using Gagne’s Nine Events of Instruction.  Finally, the students will discuss effective presentation skills.  Oh, by the way, the students will have YOU write learning objectives and use the Nine Events, too!  These students are excited about this opportunity to showcase their knowledge and skills, and to meet you, too.  Warning, their enthusiasm is contagious!

About your Facilitator:

Kathie Kunkel Holland

Kathie Kunkel Holland started her professional career as a consultant to entrepreneurs and learned a lot about training along the way. Beginning in 1985, Kathie consulted with hundreds of entrepreneurs and facilitated workshops while employed by UCF’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC). In 1993, the Florida SBDC Network tasked her with creating a statewide training and certification program for all SBDC business analysts. Kathie decided to take her own advice and start her own independent consulting firm in 1997 when other states’ SBDC Networks wanted to contract with her to create similar certification programs. Kathie has also worked with two international organizations to train and certify small business consultants throughout sixteen countries. It was during this time that Kathie got very involved with CFC ASTD and national ASTD as a source for her own professional development. Weary of the extensive travel required, Kathie stored her suitcase and became a full time instructor in the Management Department in UCF’s College of Business Administration in 2001.  She has been teaching Training and Development three semesters every year since 2005, and has earned two major teaching awards since then.
